OVMC makes annual contribution to the BC Transplant Society

With the number crunching complete following the 2006 Topless Sun Run, the Okanagan Valley Miata Club membership has decided to donate $4,000 to the B.C. Transplant Society. The donated funds are raised through the sale of official Topless Sun Run clothing, the 50/50 draw during the Sun Run banquet, and through general club revenue collected throughout the year.

From the club's beginnings in 2001 through to 2005 the membership raised $10,000, so to be able to contribute $4,000 in a single year is a remarkable achievement.

The Okanagan Valley Miata Club thanks all the participants and other Miata clubs for helping us help others. Sun Run attendees went above and beyond for the cause this year, and for their generosity the OVMC and the BC Transplant Society are truly thankful.

August Monthly Meeting

The Next OVMC meeting will be held this Wednesday, August 23 at 7:00 pm at Gord and Patrice's house. Thy are at ------------- in the Kettle Valley subdivision in the South Mission area of Kelowna.

For any out-of-towners not familiar with the area, the most direct route is to take Pandosy Street south from Highway 97. Pandosy is a few blocks from the bridge in downtown Kelowna, and south is the Chevron side of the highway. Follow this road for about 12 kilometres. It will change names from Pandosy to Lakeshore to Chute Lake, but DON'T TURN OFF ANYWHERE, just go straight through all the intersections, lights etc. Some landmarks you will pass are the Hospital, Mission Park Mall, Manteo Resort, Mission Community Hall. Shortly after Mission Community Hall you will start heading up the hill (for those who know the way to Bev's, you will pass the turnoff to her house) and will pass Summerhill Winery. About another 1 km past Summerhill you will see a large brick sign that says The Village of Kettle Valley. Turn right at the sign onto Quilchena Drive. Take the second left, which is Providence Avenue. We are at -----, about 3 blocks down on the left.

Backroads to Bavaria

I would like to get a list of all OVMC members who are now registered for the "Backroads" trip this coming October. I think we have at least seven Miatas attending but would like to confirm. I will then contact everyone about possible departure time and location. Please contact me by replying to this e-mail.
Thanks, Jim.

Triangle Tour with the Sea to Sky Miata Club

The Sea to Sky club had their annual "Triangle Tour" on Saturday, July 29th.  We were invited to join them for the middle part of their run.  They met at Hope and travelled over the Hope-Princeton highway to the Copper Mountain Pub in Princeton.  Six Miatas from our club left the Kettle Valley Station Pub in Penticton shortly before 11:00, on a perfect day for a run, and headed west towards Apex and turned south on the Green Mountain road to Highway 3A.

We stopped at a fruit stand in Keremeos for some very tasty apricots and cherries.  Our next stop was Hedley where we looked up the mountain at the remains of the old Nickel Plate mine.  Then we will took the Old Hedley Road along the Similkameen River into Princeton to the pub.

A group of eight Miatas from the Sea to Sky club arrived shortly after we did and it was lunchtime.  We had a leisurely lunch at the pub (a polite way of saying that they were overwhelmed).  From there we all drove some great Miata roads through the old mining towns of Coalmont and Tulameen with a stop at Otter Lake Provincial Park.  We then retraced our route to Princeton and headed north towards Aspen Grove.

The actual point where our two groups split up turned out to be in Kentucky-Alleyne Provincial Park ..... well for most of us anyway ..... two of our Miatas plus the tail gunner from Sea to Sky missed the turning off on road down into the park and ended up at an interchange on the Connector.  Well no harm done; the two of us just headed home on the connector and the rest of our group followed a bit later when the mystery was unravelled.

The Sea to Sky group headed home down the Coquihalla to Vancouver.  Our thanks go our to Chris Cullen of Sea to Sky for inviting us and leading the run.

Nakusp Run - Saturday, September 9

The annual Nakusp Run is on again this year! The pool has been repaired and was reopened last weekend. This is an open ended run in that we go up as a group and then leave it to the individual participants whether they wish to return the same day, stay at Nakusp, or continue on a further tour. The run covers some of the best Miata roads in the province, including a portion of Highway 6 and the road up to the springs, and of course, we get to enjoy the lovely pool. There will be more detail in a forthcoming newsletter. For further information please contact me at ------.
