Northern Exploration Run and Picnic - Sunday, July 15, 2007
After a strange spring (weather-wise) it would appear that summer has actually arrived for good, and nothing says summer like a picnic. So it's time to celebrate summer by going for a drive and picnic this Sunday, July 15.
Kelowna and southern Okanagan members will meet at The Jammery Restaurant in Lake Country, just past Duck Lake on the left. Click here for map. If you would like to go for breakfast first, you should be there by 8:30 am. We will leave from The Jammery parking lot at 9:30 am and head for Vernon. We will meet up with our northern members at 10:00 am at Starbucks, across the highway from the Prestige Inn in the Vernon Square Mall (Safeway / London Drugs / BCAA) on Highway 97 at 43rd Ave.
From Vernon the plan entails twisty roads (duh!) and a picnic lunch on the shores of Mabel Lake. The best plan for the lunch break will be to pack your own picnic lunch or pick some grub in Vernon before we head off, as food choices at Mabel Lake are likely nonexistent. Don't forget to bring a picnic blanket too.
In case you were wondering what is meant by an "Exploration Run", it simply means we're not really sure where we're going or what's at the end of the road, but we are sure it will be fun getting there! |

Pete's Peachland Post-Pool Patio Party and Potluck BBQ (and Meeting) - Saturday, July 21, 2007
RSVP REQUIRED
There's no more pool, but the July tradition continues. Our usual monthly meeting moves to the weekend and is followed by a barbecue. The event will be held Saturday July 21 at Pete place, ------------------ in Peachland.
All OVMC members are encouraged to come! The meeting starts at 4:30 sharp, and the party starts at 5:30. You don't have to come to the meeting to attend the party.
Please e-mail Pete at -------------------- if you are coming so that the proper quantities of BBQ supplies can be acquired.
BBQ / Pot Luck:
Hamburgers, Bison Burgers, Veggie Burgers, Turkey Wieners, buns and condiments will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert.
Drinks:
Yes! Soft drinks will be provided. Bring any other libations that you may wish to consume (BYOB). Coffee will be provided around dessert time if the host remembers to turn on the machine.
Directions:
At Peachland's only traffic signal on Highway 97, turn up Princeton Avenue (a right turn if you are coming from Kelowna, or a left turn if you are coming from Penticton). Head up Princeton Avenue for 3.5 kilometres. Turn right on Forest Hill Drive, go 100 feet, then turn right again onto Thompson Drive. Look for the balloons attached to the Courier box, but check to see that you are at 6249 or you could end up at another party. Park in the driveway or on the street, anything goes in Peachland. Go through the carport and down to the pool area. Now print off these directions... cause you just know you're going to get lost if you don't! |

Shuswap Run - Saturday, August 25, 2007
Please e-mail Pete (---------------) or Judy (---------------) so we have a rough idea on numbers to be looking for at the meeting places and if we need to make a reservation for lunch.
9:00 am: Kelowna, Westside, Peachland, etc. people meet at junction of Westside Road and Bear Creek Rd (about 1 1/2 Km off Hwy 97). Drive up Westside Road to the Hwy 97 junction.
10:00 am: Vernon people meet Kelowna group at junction of Westside Road and Hwy 97. Amalgamated group will then drive west on Hwy 97 to Salmon River Rd and on to Salmon Arm.
11:00 am: Arrive at Salmon Arm pier parking lot. Pit stop and walk the pier.
11:30 am: Leave Salmon Arm on Hwy 1 West, taking a little detour via White Lake, Blind Bay and up to Sorrento to the Hwy again; cross over Little River and drive east to Celista.
12:30 pm: Arrive at Finn's Pub on Shuswap Lake for lunch. (Judy's sister says we gotta try the chicken wings with house apricot sauce - "they're to die for!").
After lunch: We could opt for a swim right out front of the pub, then drive back to the junction with the Adams Lake Rd. Then north to the site of the flume model (a bit of forestry history) and look for spawning Sockeye and Cohoe salmon. If there are people interested in going to one or both of the wineries in Tappen (Recline Ridge and the newest - Granite Creek) on the way back to Salmon Arm, that would be a nice option. Once back at the Salmon Arm pier, people can choose their own way home - the highway or some back roads over to Enderby or Armstrong. |

Annual Potluck Christmas Dinner Party - Saturday, December 1, 2007
RSVP REQUIRED
Our annual pot luck Christmas dinner will be held Saturday, December 1 at Marianne and Norman's home at ---------------------------- in Kelowna. Appetizers will be served at 5:00 pm, followed by a turkey dinner at 6:30 pm.
The turkey will be supplied but we need appetizers and side dishes to go with it. We ask that everyone bring one of the following: appetizer, salad, veggies, potatoes, rice or dessert. Soft drinks will be supplied, but you must supply your own alcoholic beverages.
Please RSVP by phoning the Cooks at ------------ or e-mail -----------------------------. Let them know how many are coming and what food item you plan to bring so we can ensure we don’t have everyone bringing the same thing.
We will again hold the wild-and-wacky gift exchange, an ever-popular fun event involving cunning strategy and much thievery. Each person should bring one gift to a maximum of $10. It can be anything... fun, practical, or just plain goofy, so use your imagination!
There will be music for dancing after the gift exchange, and everyone is encouraged to bring along music that they like to dance to. |
