Backroads to Bavaria XI
Club Miata Northwest event
Friday, October 1 to Sunday, October 3, 2010
Tour Leaders: Kelly & Lori
This year marked the 11th edition of Backroads to Bavaria, staged by our friends from Club Miata Northwest. The event takes place in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, Washington during Octoberfest. This year's event attracted over 80 cars and 143 people from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and BC.
Thirteen Miatas and 23 members from the OVMC made the journey to Leavenworth, Washington on Friday after enjoying a great breakfast put on by the Kemp's at their Summerland home. The group stayed off the main highway for part of the trip by using the Nighthawk border crossing, the scenic Loomis-Oroville Road and Highway 7 before rejoining Highway 97 just south of Tonasket, Washington. After a stint on Highway 97 the group took Highway 97 Alt through Lake Chelan to connect with Highway 2 to Leavenworth.
Backroads To Bavaria included some great tours through the beautiful Cascade area, a poker run, drive to Lake Wenatchee State Park, banquet, and time to explore Leavenworth and Octoberfest. Also part of the weekend was a Show 'n Shine that resulted in wins for OVMC members Bev Bedard, who won the Best Licence Plate award (for the second consecutive time) and Harold Hilton who won the Best Wheels award.
Some members made the trek home Sunday by taking a side-trip to the old-west town of Winthrop for lunch while others to Wenatchee and other points. The weather was sunny and warm, and allowed for top down driving all weekend long.
