Explore Oregon
Willamette Valley Miata Club event
Friday, July 16 to Sunday, 18, 2010
Six cars and 10 people from OVMC took part in the Willamette Valley Miata Club's annual Explore Oregon event. The group took highways 97 and 20 to get to the Mt. Vernon area to spend the night. There they met up with 3 cars from Club Miata Vancouver Island.
Friday morning the group followed Highway 101 to Astoria, Oregon where the event was based. A welcome reception was held Friday evening.
Saturday there was a glider throw competition which took place in Astoria's city park, home of the 125-foot Astoria Column. The competition involved throwing a glider from the top of the column aimed at a target below. Harold made the OVMC proud and took the win. After the competition several different runs were offered, and the OVMC group chose "The Magical History Tour" through the Young's River Valley to historic Fort Clatsop National Memorial. Then it was off to Sunset Beach for a group picture, and a few of the cars ventured onto the beach. The last destination of the day was Fort Stevens State Park. The banquet was held that evening with socializing and prizes.
On Sunday four OVMC cars started on an extended trip down the Oregon Coast while the other two retraced their steps back over the Cascades.
