Windy Way To Wells Gray
Saturday, May 15 &
Sunday, May 16, 2010
Tour Leaders: Mark & Debi
For our first weekend adventure of the season, 16 cars and 28 people took part in a fabulous scenic tour north through cattle country to Clearwater and the beautiful Wells Gray Provincial Park. We took the connector to Merritt then travelled the awesome Highway 8 through rolling ranch lands and along the Nicola River to Spences Bridge. At Spences Bridge we took Highway 1 north to Cache Creek and stopped for a picnic lunch. Continuing north on Highway 97 we travelled through the rolling grasslands of the BC interior. We then branched off onto Highway 24 through the mountains and past pristine fishing lakes to Little Fort on the Yellowhead Highway. From there it was north to Clearwater on the edge of Wells Gray Provincial Park. After arriving at the Clearwater Lodge we took a quick trip to see a waterfall before meeting up for the group dinner.
Sunday morning we drove into Wells Gray Provincial Park and made the short walk to view Spahats Creek Falls. We then continued deeper into the park to see the infamous 463 foot-high Helmcken Falls. After Wells Gray we took the Yellowhead Highway south to Kamloops. From Kamloops we branched off onto Highway 5A through the Nicola Valley to Merritt and on to Kelowna.
