Topless Sun Run

For the first time we ventured outside of the Kelowna/West Kelowna area and headed north to Vernon to hold our premiere event, with the Village Green Hotel as the chosen location. On Friday we held a Show N’ Shine featuring 100 Miatas from all generations in the ample parking lot, before heading inside to a casual meet & greet reception in the hotel’s banquet room.
Saturday morning was spent exploring the back roads of the Northern Okanagan. We headed up Salmon River Road through Salmon Arm and returned via Deep Creek Road before stopping for lunch and tours at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch. The Cattlemen’s Club Restaurant did a fabulous job of serving delicious sandwiches and salads in the pavilion. A welcome spot to eat out of the blazing hot sun. After lunch, we proceeded up to Silver Star Mountain Resort, where Len and John did an amazing job of getting all the Miatas quickly arranged for a group shot. The Monashee Mountains provided a beautiful backdrop to the photo. Sadly, some rain clouds moved in and chased us back to the hotel. We were glad to head into the banquet room, where Kurt kept us amused while we waited for our tables to be called for dinner. The hotel pulled out all the stops and provided a scrumptious buffet of Prime Rib, Salmon and various side dishes, including a wonderful table of delicious desserts. After dinner Rolly entertained us with a wickedly funny “cowboy” poem, and Jadine rattled off raffle ticket numbers in record time! The monies collected from the raffle and 50/50 tickets, as well as the profits from the registration and clothing sales, allowed our club to donate $3000 to the B.C. Cancer Foundation. The money donated will be used exclusively for the Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior, located in Kelowna.
Sunday provided three different “exit” tours, all under rainy skies. Bruce led the majority of cars to Vernon's Davison Orchards, before winding down Commonage Road to 50th Parallel, Grey Monk and Arrowleaf wineries in Lake Country. John took a small group out to visit Shuswap Falls before bidding adieu to our Albertan guests who always enjoy taking Highway 6 home. And finally, Casey took another small group down Westside Road to West Kelowna.
