Eight cars met for a two day journey to the 2017 Explore Oregon event in Pendleton, OR and headed south to the border crossing at Osoyoos.
With the exception of the one car with racing stripes, we all made it through with no problems. After that car made it through, we continued on to our lunch stop at Rancho Chico in Tonasket, WA.
We headed east along US 20 to Colville where we picked up US 395 to Spokane. A diversion via backroads helped us avoid downtown Spokane on our way to the Oxford Inn and Suites in Spokane Valley.
Our second day started out with the included breakfast at the hotel. A quick trip westward along I-90 took us to the exit to US 195 where we journeyed south through Walla Walla, WA (home of those famous onions) to get down to our destination in Pendleton, OR.
Thursday evening included a welcome reception followed by a run up to the viewpoint at Deadman Pass to watch the sunset. Our ninth car arrived that afternoon.
Friday started a number of options, one of which was a day run to Rattlesnake Canyon just north of Enterprise, OR. Corners so tight you could see your own taillights!
Saturday offered a second group run to the Canyon as well as many other options. One of these options was the Underground Walking Tour of historic downtown Pendleton. There were many underground tunnels connecting the numerous basements under downtown businesses to allow for quiet access to rum running, gambling and other nefarious activities in the early 1900's.
Sunday saw our group taking a number of different routes homeward after a very enjoyable weekend hosted by the Willamette Valley Miata Club.
