Explore Oregon 2018

Eight cars made it through the border at Oroville with little hassle. When we reached Omak, we turned west onto US 20 and headed towards our first night’s stop at the Skagit Casino Resort.
On the way, we did a photo op stop at the Diablo Dam viewpoint. Always a good stop.
The second travel day took us over to Port Townsend via Washington state ferry. We traveled down the Olympic Peninsula onto US 101 to reach day 2 stop at Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City, OR. The Resort is right on the coast so we were able to walk barefoot on the beach.
Day three saw us pause in Florence, OR to enjoy a dune buggy bus ride onto the dunes in Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park. While waiting for our turn, a few of us took a few laps on the associated go-kart track.
We continued on to the brand new Hampton Inn and Suites in Roseburg, OR. These suites were over the top in comfort and space. We reacquainted ourselves with members from the other Miata clubs gathered for the event.
One of the guided runs took us back out to the coast and Old Town Brandon. This tour took us through more of Oregon’s incredible paved backroads.
Saturday night’s banquet was held at the Southern Oregon Wine Institute.
Sunday saw the usual dandelion seeds in the wind exit by the attendees, everyone taking their own routes somewhere.
Four of our cars continued out to Gold Beach for a two night stay so we could take part in the Jet Boat ride up the Rogue River and back on the Monday. It was a very enjoyable but wet time.
The return trip took the group for a quick run south into California before turning back north towards home. Crater Lake was bypassed as the smoke from local forest fires reduced visibility greatly. There was no point trying to see any sights there.
There was an overnight stay at the Redmond Inn in Redmond, OR before the trip concluded back in the Okanagan. Another great Explore Oregon experience.
