Magnetic Hill Run

We met up at the Dr Knox Middle School Parking lot in Genmore and zig zagged our way over to Glenmore Road then along some new roads overlooking Okanagan Lake and the new developments above McKinley landing. Then a few more twisty roads took us past Arrowleaf Cellars and Grey Monk winery down to the lakeshore and Okanagan Landing. We soon crossed Hwy 97 and took a beautiful drive along Pelmewash Parkway and the lakeshore of Wood Lake.
Back on the highway we took our time slightly below the speed limit to allow everyone to catch up. At the Kekuli bay turn off we followed Kalamalka Lakeview Drive where John Gallant had stationed himself on a curve and took a great video of our 12 cars gliding by. We arrived at our first stop at the Kalamalka Lakeview Lookout where, under warm sunny skies, we took in the amazing view of Kalamalka Lake and the mountains beyond. 2 more cars joined us here, bringing our Miata parade up to 14.
Leaving the lookout we weaved our way through Coldstream’s picturesque landscape of forests and farms ending up at our second stop, Magnetic Hill, which is difficult to find as there is no signage to direct you. (Secret. Google map Dixon Dam Road.) After receiving a few operating instructions we proceeded slowly in a line up the hill and at a certain point we each slipped our gears into neutral and waited for our cars to stop. But they didn’t! With the engines running to keep the steering wheel alive, we slowly crept up a quarter of a kilometre to the top of the hill. Then, for the disbelievers we went around and did it again!
From the Magnetic Hill we made our way back through Coldstream to Alexander’s Pub where we enjoyed lunch and refreshments on the patio overlooking the beach at Kalamalka Lake.
